Why can't I get my Speakers on my computer to work?

I have an SVA computer bran new. I hooked everything up and everything is working fine except the speakers. The speaker image on the bottem of my screen is saying no audio output device is installed. I start my online cles tomarrow and I need them to work. What can I do? Please Help me
